Chew and Swallow: The Agency Acquisition Update

Chew and Swallow: The Agency Acquisition Update

The US economy is booming and the agency biz is ripe for disruption: the combination continues to fuel an acquisition bubble that only seems to be getting bigger.

Here’s a brief update on some of the deals that we’ve seen over the summer:

  • PenFed signed a deal with WHITE64, an unusual deal that doesn’t make a lot of sense to Marketpinion…
  • Elite SEM caught the current and bought Amazon Specialist Agency CPC Strategic
  • Wunderman floated in and got another Amazon-focused agency, 2Sales, then made an 800lb deal to buy up Gorilla Group
  • Brit agency DRP created a scene and bought live event agency HMX
  • Burson Cohn & Wolfe (aka WPP) tracked down HZ agency a creative firm based in Rockville
  • Clemenger snagged LEVO Digital an Australian agency and consultancy
  • Avanade made a noise and bought Loud &Clear, a digital firm in Australia
  • Dentsu Aegis floated in and bought marketing cloud agency Merkle
  • rEvolution scored with the acquisition of Revolution Sports Marketing
  • The Times they are a changin’… Not exactly an agency deal, but Salefroce zillionaire Mark Bezos and his wife – on a whim, according to the New York Times – bought the once-legendary Time magazine for about $190 million.
